For the Rotary Club of Greyton to review
This page is waiting for the Rotary Club of Greyton to check it. It is published now so that they can see how it fits with the rest of the site. Until they have approved the text, it may change. Questions for them:
- Is this description of the club and its projects correct? What would you like to change?
- Are the eleven projects listed still the club’s projects for 2026/27?
- Is the date of the next Greyton Apple & Cider Festival (14 to 16 May 2027) confirmed?
- Would any project like a lead or a contact named on the page?
- Should readers reach you through the moderators, or would you like a public contact listed?

Offers
The club’s eleven projects for the 2026/27 Rotary year [MS]:
- Food forests in Genadendal, Boschmanskloof, Voorstekraal, and Bereaville. The Genadendal food forest will also be a learning centre and community meeting place.
- Food security. Bringing fallow gardens back into use to create jobs and feed families, with surplus food going to soup kitchens, old-age homes, and schools, alongside FoodForward SA.
- Natural building. Teaching people to build affordable homes from local poles, clay, straw, stone, and sand. Neighbours help each other build, so there is no labour cost.
- Early childhood development. Helping existing ECD centres meet the rules they need to register and receive government funding.
- Youth media. Training young people to tell the valley’s stories, including the stories of older residents, responsibly and ethically.
- Greyton Apple & Cider Festival. The club’s main yearly fundraiser, planned with local apple farmers, cider makers, guesthouses, and restaurants. The next festival is on 14 to 16 May 2027.
- Sport, art, and culture. Youth forums in each village, with sport, visual art, and drama for children, working with the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture and the Greyton Art Walk.
- Sports facilities. Upgrading the valley’s sports grounds with local contractors and farmers.
- Recycling. Residents collect recyclable waste and swap it for food or other necessities. A new NPO sells the recyclables and puts the money back into the project.
- Substance abuse. A group of local stakeholders working on education, counselling, and routes to rehabilitation.
- Skills Development Centre. Training for fruit farming, hospitality, small-scale vegetable growing, and home care. A local venue is available.
A donation of R30,000 from the Rotary Club of Claremont is funding several of these projects [MS].
