Facts on this page are followed by a tag that shows where they come from.

  • [IC] Independently Corroborated. Confirmed by an official record, such as a government notice or a court or council record, or by at least two sources that do not depend on each other.
  • [MS] Mission-Sourced. Comes from the organisation’s own website or statements, from the statements of a group it works with, or from the Forum’s own records. It has not been checked against sources that do not depend on them.

Its South African team works on care for street dogs, ending cosmetics testing on animals, farmed animal welfare, human-wildlife conflict, and ethical tourism [MS].

How its work reaches the valley

  • Pigs to Plants. The programme, developed and led by the Greyton Farm Animal Sanctuary, helps households move from keeping pigs to growing vegetables. Humane World for Animals says it has supported it since 2022, and gives it a yearly grant [IC]. The sanctuary names the Olsen Animal Trust as a second funder [MS].
  • Schools. A programme started in 2015 reached all six schools in the valley, about 2,500 children in Genadendal, Bereaville, Voorstekraal, and Greyton, with funding from Humane Society International [MS].
  • Relief. It gave the sanctuary a disaster relief grant during the Covid lockdown [MS].
