What you’ll find here

This site shows what is happening across Ward 2: the farms, the businesses, the schools, the clinics, the churches, the sports clubs, the care groups, the heritage sites, and the projects people are starting.

Some of this work has been around a long time, like the Mission Museum at Genadendal and the farms that have worked this land for generations. Some is new, like the Adventure Hub in Greyton and the small-scale growers on Farm 39. All of it has found a home in the valley we share.

The site is a public register. You can look things up, add something you know about, or follow a theme like water, youth, or heritage. The Ward 2 Development Forum keeps the site running.

What you get from using the site

Choice. See what is available before you commit your time, your money, or your children’s future. Which training courses are open. Which schools offer which subjects. Which farms are hiring. Which food gardens are looking for volunteers.

Trust. A moderator reads every entry before it goes live. If an entry describes another person or organisation, they get a chance to respond first. Each fact on an entry shows where it comes from, so you can see what has been checked.

Three ways to use the site

If you live in the valley. Browse by area or search for what you need. See who runs the food garden two streets away, when the next skills course opens, or where to take a service complaint. Where the people running an initiative have agreed to be contacted, their details are on the entry. For everything else, the moderators can put you in touch.

If you run something in the valley. Add your project. A business, a farm, a congregation, a sports club, a service, or a one-person practice all belong here. Other residents will find you. So will the municipality, funders, and partner organisations who want to know who is doing what.

If you are looking in from outside. Ward 2 covers six settlements and the farms around them, with two racial histories and a common future. Whether you are with the municipality, a provincial department, a funder, or a partner organisation, this site shows the ward as a whole.

The three spheres of life

Everything on the site belongs to one of nine areas of valley life, grouped into three spheres:

  1. Economic: working the land and looking after it. Farmers, Land & Water · Business · Tourism
  2. Civic: living together and looking after each other. Governance · Residents Association · Community Care
  3. Cultural: learning what matters and passing it on. Education · Sport, Heritage, Arts & Culture · Faith Communities

Two themes run through every area: youth and environment. Look for the tags on each entry to see what is happening for young people and for the natural world, wherever it sits.

If you know the Transformasie Komitee’s sectors, or the portfolios of a residents’ association, How the Forum’s Categories Compare shows where each one fits on this site.

The Forum has also agreed five development priorities for the ward. Each will have a champion, to be named at the November 2026 meeting.

Languages

Use the language button to read the site in English, Afrikaans, isiXhosa, Sesotho, or isiZulu. The translations are made by machine, so the English page is the one to rely on when the wording matters.

You can send a submission in English or Afrikaans. If you would rather send a voice note or talk to someone in person, the Contact page tells you how.

Why we built it

Until now, the valley has worked together through WhatsApp groups, occasional meetings, and word of mouth. Good initiatives start, and others only hear about them months later. Work goes unseen, and partners who could help each other never meet.

This site puts that work in one place so anyone can see it. It is a small change in how we do things, with a large effect. When the valley can see itself, it can plan for itself.

In 2038, Genadendal will mark 300 years since the first Moravian mission in Southern Africa was founded there. The work we do together between now and then is what that anniversary will remember.

Get involved

Ward 2 covers Genadendal, Greyton, Heuwelkroon, Madiba Park, Bereaville, Voorstekraal, and Boschmanskloof, along with the surrounding farms in the Riviersonderend valley.
