The Forum

The Ward 2 Business and Community Development Forum (W2DF) brings together people working across Ward 2 of Theewaterskloof Municipality. The ward covers Genadendal, Greyton, Heuwelkroon, Madiba Park, Bereaville, Voorstekraal, and Boschmanskloof.

The Forum is run by the community. Theewaterskloof Municipality supports it with administration. The Forum first met on 16 September 2026 at Hester Dorothea in Genadendal, and it meets every two months.

The Forum works on five priorities. Each will have a champion, to be named at the November 2026 meeting:

  • Tourism development
  • Education and skills
  • Agriculture and food sovereignty
  • Conservation and environment
  • Business development and local procurement

This site

This site is a public register of what is happening in the ward. Each entry shows what an initiative needs and what it offers. Residents can find what is nearby, people running projects can be found, and partners from outside the valley can see who is doing what.

The moderators use AI tools to collate large amounts of material, from submissions and from published sources such as books, court records, and archives, into the format you see here. A moderator checks every page before it goes live, and each page lists its sources under References.

How the site is organised

Every entry belongs to one of nine categories. The categories are grouped into three spheres of life, and each sphere has its own guiding principle:

  • Economic (cooperation): how the valley makes, grows, and trades what people need.
  • Civic (equality): the rules the valley lives by, and what every person is owed.
  • Cultural (freedom): how the valley learns, remembers, worships, and celebrates.

Two themes run through all nine categories: youth and environment. Tags on each entry let you follow these and other themes across the valley.

To see how these categories line up with the Transformasie Komitee’s sectors and with a typical residents’ association, see How the Forum’s Categories Compare.

How entries are checked

A small team of moderators reads every submission before it goes live. They follow these rules:

  • No proposal about a party without that party present. If an entry describes an organisation or person, that party gets the chance to respond before the entry is published.
  • Land and tenure. Entries about Farm 39, TRANCRAA, land tenure, or the mission settlement go to the Transformasie Komitee for review. The Komitee is the community’s mandated body for these matters.
  • Private details stay private. Phone numbers, email addresses, and home addresses appear only when the person has agreed to be listed.
  • Facts are marked. Each claim on an entry shows where it comes from: [IC] means confirmed by independent sources or an official record, [MS] means it comes from the initiative itself, and [TBV] means it still has to be checked.

The municipality does not moderate or approve what appears on this site.

Languages

You can read and submit entries in English or Afrikaans. More languages will be added when they are needed.

Looking ahead

In 2038, Genadendal marks 300 years since the first Moravian mission in Southern Africa was founded there. The Forum’s work between now and then is part of preparing for that anniversary.
