What the letters in square brackets mean

Facts on this page are followed by a tag that shows where they come from.

  • [IC] Independently Corroborated. Confirmed by an official record, such as a government notice or a court or council record, or by at least two sources that do not depend on each other.
  • [MS] Mission-Sourced. Comes from the organisation’s own website or statements, from the statements of a group it works with, or from the Forum’s own records. It has not been checked against sources that do not depend on them.
  • [TBV] To Be Verified. Seems likely, but nobody has confirmed it from a reliable source yet.

What it does

Elsenburg offers a B.Agric degree, a Diploma in Agriculture, and Equine Studies, as well as occupational certificate programmes and short courses [MS]. CASP pays for equipment and inputs for farming and food processing, for subsistence, smallholder, and land reform producers and agri-processors in the Western Cape [IC].

How its work reaches the valley

  • At the Forum. At the first meeting the department described the Elsenburg qualifications at NQF levels 3 and 4, which it funds, and said applicants must find a host farm for the practical part [MS]. The meeting gave “Elsenburg and CapeNature representatives” the action of sharing information on qualifications, applications, host farms, and dates before the next meeting [MS].
  • Host farms. The Farmers, Land & Water category lists host-farm openings for Elsenburg learners among the things it holds.
  • Co-operatives. Starting a Co-operative in the Valley names the department’s Overberg office as the government office a farming group asks first, and Elsenburg as a possible training partner.
