For Greyton Volunteer Firefighters to review

This page is waiting for Greyton Volunteer Firefighters to check it. It is published now so that they can see how it fits with the rest of the site. Until they have approved the text, it may change. Questions for them:

  1. Is this description of GVF and its work correct? What would you like to change?
  2. Does GVF give fire safety talks for learners? If so, at which schools?
  3. Are the needs listed (donations and volunteers) still the most useful, or is there something more specific?
  4. Should readers reach you through the moderators, or would you like a public contact listed?
  5. How does GVF work with the Overberg District Fire Services and the Greater Overberg Fire Protection Association on a call? Is GVF a member of, or recognised by, either?

Greyton Volunteer Firefighters (GVF) is a team of volunteers who protect Greyton and the Valley of Grace by responding quickly to fires [MS]. Its members are residents and people from local businesses [MS]. It is registered as Greyton Volunteer Firefighters NPC, a non-profit company (registration 2024/486379/08), and as a public benefit organisation (PBO 930089566), so donations are tax deductible under section 18A [MS].

GVF started with a borrowed trailer and water tank, and later used an old fire truck from the Overberg District Municipality [IC]. Residents then raised money for a fire truck of its own. GVF now has two Unimog fire trucks [IC]. In the months before February 2026, it responded to about 50 wildfires across six villages in the Overberg [IC]. The fire emergency number on its website is the number of the Overberg District Fire Services control room, run by the Overberg District Municipality [IC].
