What the letters in square brackets mean
Facts on this page are followed by a tag that shows where they come from.
- [IC] Independently Corroborated. Confirmed by an official record, such as a government notice or a court or council record, or by at least two sources that do not depend on each other.
- [MS] Mission-Sourced. Comes from the organisation’s own website or statements, from the statements of a group it works with, or from the Forum’s own records. It has not been checked against sources that do not depend on them.
- [TBV] To Be Verified. Seems likely, but nobody has confirmed it from a reliable source yet.

What it does
The municipality states its mission as rendering “sustainable, client directed services” and being “the preferred Provider of Shared Services within the Overberg” [MS]. Fires in its area are dealt with by the district [MS].
How its work reaches the valley
- Fire. The fire emergency number on Greyton Volunteer Firefighters’ website is the number of the district’s fire control room [IC]. Greyton Volunteer Firefighters began with a borrowed trailer and tank, and later used an old fire truck from the district municipality [IC].
- Planning. The district is the level above Theewaterskloof in the The Rules the Valley Lives By table, where no district rule has a page yet.
Where it touches this site
- Greyton Volunteer Firefighters, the valley’s volunteer fire service.
- National Veld and Forest Fire Act, which names the district fire services as the emergency contact.
- The Overberg Leopard Corridor, an idea not yet agreed, which leaves roads, land use, and budgets with the district and local municipalities. The district has not been asked.
What is still open
- How the district, the volunteer firefighters, and the fire protection association divide work on a fire in the valley.
- Which other district services reach Ward 2.
