Heuwelkroon lies on the edge of Greyton, with the Sonderend mountains behind it. It is a small, close-knit community. Many residents keep vegetable gardens, and the community has taken part in local food-growing projects. There are a few small shops and schools, and residents use many services in Greyton and Genadendal.
